Reservations

A step in the right direction. Thats what the SC's order of stay on OBC reservations looks like.

Why are people ready to be divided on caste lines?
Even after almost 60 years of independence, and all those quotas, the only reason benefits are not reaching the needy is that the same people are gaining again and again. I mean that ppl from families who has at least 1 well educated person(person with a good job) should be kept out of the quota ambit. This is what constitutes the creamy layer.
As for the others in need, quota is not the answer.
The points raised are they do not have proper resources/access to education to compete. If that is the case, government should try and provide these basic things rather than trying to spoil one of the very few things that works in India.

Why does the government not do something about Primary education?
Why do they not concentrate on preventing school dropouts?
Why do they not make sure that books and healthy food are available?
If people who do not have proper foundation, enter the best of the institutes, what purpose would it serve?
Would they be able to do well/compete?
What kind of doctors/engineers/any other professional would they make?
Very few of them would actually be able to complete the course unless it is also based on quota
(say reserved quota need to study only chapter 1-10, General Category - Chapters 1-20)

And I think people should know better than to fall for such caste-based politics that politicians have been using since long.

Its high time, concentrated effort is put to improve primary education and the affect would flow higher education automatically .
(I know the points here are not very organized, might just consider it a reflection of the title of the blog ;)
